ABOUT
USJude
Hobbs As a permaculture designer, horticulturist, and instructor,
Jude's focus is on environmental design solutions for rural and sub/urban settings. In
1982, she founded Cascadia Landscape Design, a business specializing in integrating
permaculture techniques that blend function and aesthetics. As part of the design
process Jude, and whomever she works with, create a master plan based on whole
systems. These systems may include: structure types and location, water harvesting,
soil building, appropriate plant selection, forestry, appropriate technology,
and animals. These elements endeavor to provide year round productivity and beauty.
Jude
is an associate with Agro-Ecology Northwest, a research and consultancy group
working with small-scale farmers. This group offers design plans that emphasize
efficiency and productivity. Her experience working on farms and ranches allows
her an understanding of the challenges that interface farming and economic realities. Jude
has developed projects in rural, residential, commercial, and institutional areas. Jude
has written A
Guide to Multi-Functional Hedgerows for Oregon State University Extension
Service. Many states are requesting farmers include buffer zones along waterways
to encourage fish habitat. Jude is engaged in research that demonstrates the environmental
and potential economic value of good watershed management through the inclusion
of income-producing crops within these zones. | Winter
