Permaculture is an ecological approach to whole-systems design. Through an evolving set of principles and strategies, one can creatively develop self-supporting environments by integrating the land, water, people, plants, animals, shelter, technologies, and community.
Permaculture is a scientifically based artful way of living, where conservation of natural resources are preserved and enhanced. This common sense approach to design is accomplished by thoughtful planning, mimicking the patterns found in nature (bio-mimicry), integrating self-sustaining systems and a respectful approach to all life. These attributes create an environment where all may thrive for future generations.

along field borders, fence lines and waterways. In the Northwest this
ancient design method is being expanded to incorporate a diverse number
of plant species with a wide variety of functions.
Hedgerows often consist of trees, shrubs, ground covers, perennials,
annuals, and vines depending on the function, size, and location of the
planting strip.
